OTA Releases Driver Handbook for Cross Border Drivers --- Practical Border Crossing

(September 4, 2008) -- With the multiple programs and ever changing rules at the border, a driver’s job can be both difficult and frustrating. To help keep on top of all these changes OTA has released a new handbook, Practical Border Crossing. The handbook provides the answers to the top questions facing cross border drivers along with helpful tips that will help drivers prepare before they arrive and while at the border in an effort to reduce delays.

“The CB radio and truck stop is not always the best place to get cross border advice, even if you are a seasoned driver. This book will provide you with useful bits of information that will get you across the border faster,” said OTA President David Bradley.

The Practical Border Crossing publication was created by visiting the major truck ports in Ontario and meeting with front-line border officials from U.S. and Canada, along with bridge operators and custom brokers, to get their insights into what steps drivers can take to reduce delays at the border. The easy to use handbook contains 100 page of vital and helpful information.

Practical Border Crossing is broken into easy to find separate sections that provide drivers with clear advice that pertains to entering into Canada and the United States. The guide book also identifies the requirements of drivers by clearance program, personal item information and load specific direction. A section of the Practical Border Crossing is devoted to the unique requirements of individual crossings in Ontario along with contact information.

OTA would like to thank the members of the Public Border Operators Association (CBOA), Ambassador Bridge, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), Canadian Society of Customs Brokers (CSCB), Northern Border Customs Brokers Association, Ontario, Michigan and New York law enforcement for their expertise and time spent in developing this comprehensive and practical book.

Member cost of Practical Border Crossing is $10 per book with volume discounts available. (Non-member price: $15) To purchase copies of OTA’s Practical Border Crossing, please call Esperanza Tome at 416-249-7401 ext 223 or e-mail at sales@ontruck.org
